day one 568KM, I took "the slow way" for much of the trip, routing along the Sunrise Trail through NS.
Day one, stopped along the way for a quick lunch - this is the vehicle that made the journey.
Some folks went to greater lengths to get some sleep on the overnight crossing.
Day two, 488 KM touring around from the ferry to Burgeo then partway back to a wild campsite.
Exploring along the NF coastline.
Not sure what this old building was, probably a generating plant for the nearby communications towers.
Day two started off a bit dark and damp.
The rail trail I was going to ride on my bike, it gets a lot of ATV use - the loose gravel berms that result can be challenging.
a misty morning
I think these held fuel tanks for the generators back in the days before Hydro electric power covered the island.
Boats are obviously an important part of life here, it seems like everybody has at least one.
a sheltered bay near Burgeo.
a quiet morning near Burgeo.
Along the road to Burgeo
looks like some bad weather ahead, then some good. Note the markers so the snowplows can find the road in winter.
more water
it's going to get wet!
changing weather
saw some Caribou
Awesome views anywhere you look.
a wider view
my boondocking spot for the first night on the island.
the car in bookdocking mode.
all set for sleeping.
Like magic the day's clouds cleared and with no moon I had a spectacular view of the milky way overhead.
Day three, a short 239 KM drive to Gros Morne
Once I got to Gros Morne NP I stopped for a quick lunch. The park was very quiet thanks to Covid, mostly empty.
in the Tablelands.
Tablelands
Trout River harbour
Trout River Small Pond
not much going on at the Trout River Pond boat launch today.
Since I was at a legit campground I put up the screen tent even though bugs were minimal. I still slept in the car, it's just easier.
Day four I was touristing around in Gros Morne NP 138 KM
Day four was bright and sunny, this is Trout River Small Pond again
looking over at Woody Point and the start of the Tablelands
The Tablelands
Norris Point
Safety first for the kayak renters
ground-based lessons come first
behind the pretty facade, Norris point is just another small Newfoundland town.
