I set up a little "table" and had a nice relaxing time reading and drinking rye.
sunset coming
it's a beautiful place
Sunset
morning light
Another view of South Campbell lake
and another
there's a substation at the dam sending power to Campbell River
such a nice little lake with a free camping on the edge of it.
down at lake-level
my free camping spot for the night.
natural boat launch
the sun is getting low
so scenic
another nice sunset
sometimes you just have to stop and get out the camera
overlooking Victoria, BC from Mount Douglas
I scooted ahead of all this and went directly to the front of the line on the Vic-Van ferry
another bike showed up just before departure but for a while it was just me and one other rider.
Leaving Vancouver Island on the ferry from Swartz Bay outside Victoria
it was a fine day
some pretty nice places on these little islands
more nice places
Goodbye again to Vancouver Island, don't know when I'll be back.
I made it to a nice campground on the verge of the Fraser Valley - one of the best "front porch" views of the whole trip if you ask me.
no other campers close either, what a great spot - I stayed two nights.
such a pretty view
There were a few of these cool longboats along the beach. This campground sits on Scowlitz (Sq'éwlets) First Nation land and is owned and run by it's members. I really enjoyed the conversations I had with a few of the people that live here.
hot in the Fraser valley
trying a new coffee from an old favorite venue
just past the reservation there's another, much more crowded "RV Resort", I liked it much better where I was.
this is the man and woman that operate the campground. They go out in their wooden kayaks every evening they can, this time she stayed out paddling until nearly full dark.
I doubt I'd ever get tired of these sunsets
camp fire ban still in effect
with wildfire smoke thick in the air I found a campsite at EC Manning Provincial Park.
not crazy about setting up on gravel but a lot of campgrounds are like this. At least it's not mucky.
it was really smokey in the Okanagan valley
gas is a little cheaper here but still nowhere as cheap as AB
and it's really, really hot.
with the warm temps and no rain in the forecast I slept without the rainfly on the tent, which I hardly ever do. Unfortunately the smoke in the air made it impossible to see any stars.
in the morning there was ash on everything
Lovely Christina Lake, said to be Canada's warmest lake. I swam in it a few times over the two days I was there.
the very nice beach at the provincial day-use park.
