After passing through the NS border checkpoint we stopped for our first fuel of the trip at Amherst, NS
John fueling his bike. He only has a 220KM range so we stopped quite often. There were a couple of close calls finding fuel as he'd not brought any supplemental fuel container.

Day One 502 KM - all paved
We were lucky to get onboard the ferry before the rain started. The ferry was completely booked - I was the last passenger allowed on.
social distancing meant an uncrowded ferry - quiet too and I slept well through the night.
first order of business once off the boat was breakfast at Tim's and then an hour spent trying to reset the bead on John's front tire. In installing the new tire he hadn't got the bead quite right and it was bouncing badly at certain speeds. Much futzing ensued.

Eventually John killed his battery running the air pump, luckly I had my battery powered jump starter. This wasn't the last time he'd need it.

stopping along the way for a stretch. The weather was a bit drizzly, not much real rain and cool - very windy (into our faces) all the way to Gros Morne NP.

I made my feelings clear several times about the state of the rear tire John had chosen to travel on - cheap bastard!

Found out my clutch cable looked like this when we stopped at Gros Morne. "a week to 10 days" for a new one in Corner Brook and just another reason I aborted the trip. I babied the clutch lever all the way home using it for starts, stops and shifting to 2nd gear only - all other shifts were clutchless to preserve the cable.
